Oklahoma State Makes Comeback to take Fiesta Bowl

January 3, 2012
By

The Stanford Cardinal had quarterbackAndrew Luck, but it was nothing but bad luck for their kicker.

Cardinal Kicker Jordan Williamsonmissed the game-winning, 35-yard field goal with three seconds remaining, then missed a 43-yarder in overtime. The crucial miscues eventually gave Oklahoma State a chance to take the Fiesta Bowl 41-38 with a 22-yard kick. The game-winning field goal would mark the first time OSU lead all game.

Despite the loss Stanford was able to cover the +4.5 spread; the game went OVER the 72.5 Total.

OSU quarterback Brandon Weeden three for 399 passing yards and three touchdowns, all three to eventual first-round pick Justin Blackmon, who finished with eight catches and 191 yards. For Stanford Luck led the Cardinal with 348 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor had 35 carries for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Cardinal couldn’t gain points consistently from its kicker, Williamson was 5-5 for the extra point, but 1-4 on field goals.

Luck will enter the 2012 draft as a definite top-five pick however, he leaves Stanford losing the Hesiman and Fiesta Bowl. Blackmon announced after the game that he would be entering the upcoming draft. Both could have an immediate betting impact for whichever team that decides to draft them.
